The MIP11 D-11 is a spindle and servo inverter assembled by Okuma for the MIV Servo Drives series. Intended for CNC machining centers and automated cells, the unit forms the power stage between the numerical controller and the motor. It converts power from the common DC bus into a variable-frequency output that governs motor speed and torque. This arrangement provides the fast response needed for coordinated multi-axis motion while reducing the number of separate power components installed in the control cabinet.
For the L-side channel, the inverter has a continuous output rating of 11 kW, corresponding to 15 HP. Current feedback is calibrated through a motor scale of 76.3 A/V and a DC bus scale of 88 A/V, allowing the controller to calculate actual current from the associated voltage signals. A speed-monitor scale of 6250 rpm/V relates the tachometer voltage to spindle speed for closed-loop regulation. The drive uses an ICB1 control board and has a built-in DC power supply, eliminating the need for an external rectifier. The required panel cutout is 414 mm high and 289 mm wide, while the mounting holes are spaced 200 mm apart and accept M8 hardware. The complete chassis measures 450 mm high, 310 mm wide, and 254.1 mm deep, allowing it to fit within a midsize electrical enclosure. These mounting dimensions also provide the clearance needed to position the inverter securely on the cabinet panel.
A Servo Link network can connect up to 8 axes, and individual interunit cables can extend as far as 25 m without degrading signal quality. The complete network loop can have a total cable length of up to 100 m, permitting drive units to be distributed around larger CNC machines and automated cells. These cable allowances provide flexibility when the controller, inverter, and associated axes cannot be installed in the same cabinet section. The housing weighs 22 kg, so the mounting surface and fasteners must support the inverter securely during operation. Its substantial enclosure also helps keep the unit stable in cabinets exposed to vibration from nearby machining equipment.
