The E5409-183-349 absolute encoder is produced by Okuma within the Absolute Encoders series. This feedback device is intended for CNC machining centers and other automated assemblies that require precise, nonvolatile axis referencing after power loss. By reporting an unambiguous digital position, the unit allows the machine controller to resume motion without homing sequences, which shortens startup time and helps avoid cumulative positioning error in multi-axis operation. That behavior is useful on equipment where repeatable position recovery is needed after interruptions or controlled shutdowns.

It is wired to five control loops labeled X, Y, Z, 4, 5, so the interface can support three linear axes and two auxiliary channels from one control point. A coiled output cable allows the harness to extend and retract with movement while reducing strain at the termination point. The front dial is graduated from 0-100, making incremental jog entries easy to read during axis adjustment. Adjacent + / - direction marks show the selected jogging direction clearly.
