Product Description:

The BL-D75A axis drive unit is produced by Okuma within the BL Servo Drives series. It acts as the interface between the machine’s DC bus and a single servo motor, translating command signals from the numerical control into regulated current and voltage. In industrial automation, this function keeps each feed axis on the programmed path while machining, probing, or indexing. It also helps the control system maintain stable motion when the axis changes speed, direction, or cutting load.

This drive communicates directly with 5020 and 7000 controls, so parameter blocks, alarms, and diagnostics are exchanged without additional converters. Control-power integrity is supervised by VR-LOSS Monitoring; if the logic supply collapses, the drive disables its output before corrupt data can reach the motor. A dedicated ground path is enforced through a High-Speed No-Fuse Breaker, which disconnects the unit when line-to-ground faults are detected faster than mechanical fuses can respond. Thermal loading of the base plate is watched by FOL Overheat Detection; this sensor initiates a shutdown when the heat sink reaches a preset temperature. For DC-link undervoltage, the BL-D75A trips when the bus falls below 200 VDC, preventing incomplete commutation and loss of torque.

On the current side, the amplifier issues an alarm once demand rises above 120% of its current limit, protecting drive transistors and motor windings. Continuous overload is tracked by an Armature-Winding Thermostat located in the motor circuit, so rising copper temperature automatically feeds back to the drive. Regenerative energy is supervised by OH Overheat Detection, ensuring the built-in resistor does not exceed its thermal capacity during fast decelerations. When any of these faults occur, the stop sequence is enforced through a Dynamic Brake, which dissipates kinetic energy internally and holds the axis until the CNC cancels the alarm. This controlled stopping action reduces the chance of uncontrolled coasting after a protection event.
