The YSM212 is a brushless servo motor manufactured by Kollmorgen for the YSM Brushless Servo Motors series. It converts controlled electrical current into repeatable rotary motion for positioning loads in conveyors, pick-and-place heads, and compact packaging axes. When paired with a matched drive, the motor provides closed-loop speed and torque control for accurate indexing, start-stop cycles, and moderate continuous duty in industrial automation cells. This control arrangement allows the drive to correct motion in response to feedback while maintaining consistent performance under changing loads.
The housing measures 123 mm long and provides a continuous shaft torque of 1.4 Nm, which is the load the motor can sustain without overheating when cooled by ambient air. During operation, the rotor can reach 4500 rpm, enabling rapid cycle times when coupled directly to timing pulleys or belt drives. An optical encoder provides 2000 lines of feedback, allowing the drive to resolve fine positional increments for incremental moves or electronic gearing. Dynamic response is aided by a rotor inertia of 0.00003 kg·m², which reduces the energy required to reverse direction and allows the servo to settle quickly after each move. A bolt circle diameter of 70 mm and mounting holes measuring 5.5 mm simplify attachment to standard IEC motor flanges. A holding brake rated at 1.27 Nm keeps vertical or suspended loads from drifting when power is removed.
Peak acceleration torque reaches 3.8 Nm for short bursts, providing extra capacity for overcoming static friction or driving high-inertia fixtures. The stator windings are protected by an IP43 enclosure rating, which limits dust ingress and exposure to angled water spray in enclosed machines. At only 1.90 kg, the motor adds minimal mass to moving axes. Its bearings tolerate a radial load of 25 kg and an axial load of 10 kg, supporting applications in which pulleys or couplings impose side forces. A shaft-end thread of M5 × 0.8 with a depth of 12 mm allows secure attachment of encoder discs or couplings without additional adapters.
