The M.1015.6978 is a brushless servo motor manufactured by Kollmorgen for the YSM Brushless Servo Motors series. An eight-pole rotor with rare-earth magnets provides high torque density and smooth sinusoidal commutation. Intended for closed-loop motion systems, the unit converts drive commands into precise shaft rotation for pick-and-place modules, indexing tables, and light conveyor axes. A factory-mounted holding brake secures vertical loads when power is removed. The motor interfaces with standard 230-volt drives through a combined power and feedback connector.
At the electrical interface, the motor is rated for a continuous supply of 230 V, enabling direct pairing with common single-phase servo amplifiers. The back EMF constant of 45 V per krpm supports drive voltage selection and linear velocity control up to the top speed of 4500 rpm. Torque production follows the electromagnetic constants: a sine-wave torque sensitivity of 0.37 Nm/A and a square-wave coefficient of 0.40 Nm/A permit the use of either commutation strategy without rerating the load. The copper phase resistance is 2.9 Ω, and the phase inductance is 12.4 mH; these values affect current-loop bandwidth and drive filter design. During continuous operation, the stator dissipates heat through a thermal path rated at 1.3 °C/W, allowing operation without external cooling.
The motor accommodates axial forces equivalent to 10 kg and radial forces equivalent to 25 kg, allowing direct belt or pinion mounting without auxiliary bearings. A permanent-magnet brake rated at 1.27 Nm engages automatically when its 24 VDC coil is de-energized. Releasing the brake requires 0.31 A, which limits additional power demand. The brake adds 2.4 kg to the assembly and raises the combined rotor inertia to 0.000032 kg·m². This low inertia supports rapid acceleration during short indexing movements.
