Product Description:
The XSM115-42-504-M-2AA is a permanent-magnet servo motor produced by Kollmorgen for the XSM Centurion Servo Motors series. Designed for precision motion control, it converts electrical energy into regulated torque for positioning machinery such as form-fill-seal units, gantry heads, and carton erectors. Its standardized mounting, shaft, and feedback interfaces support integration with compatible Kollmorgen drive systems without extensive mechanical changes.
The motor provides a continuous torque of 42 in-lb, supporting medium-torque applications while remaining within its thermal limits. A maximum speed of 5000 rpm supports short indexing cycles, while a torque constant of 0.83 N·m/A allows the drive to produce predictable torque from the commanded current. The three-phase stator has a winding resistance of 3.8 Ω, which affects current flow and copper losses during operation. The motor operates from a 460 V bus that is compatible with common industrial power systems. Its 115 mm frame uses a 115 mm bolt circle for mounting, and the 19.0 mm shaft includes an M6 × 1.0 mm center-tapped hole with a depth of 16 mm for puller hardware. Multi-turn feedback supplies the absolute rotor angle, allowing the controller to retain position information across operating cycles.
The optional holding brake operates at 24 VDC and adds 1.91 inches to the motor’s overall length. It engages when power is removed to prevent a stationary load from drifting. An inductance of 21 mH smooths dynamic current changes in the windings, while a back EMF constant of 100 V/krpm provides a voltage response proportional to motor speed. The 8-pole rotor supports high torque density while maintaining an electrical frequency suitable for the motor’s mechanical speed range. These characteristics allow the drive to regulate current, estimate speed, and control rotor position during repetitive machine cycles.
