Product Description:
The VLM33J-ALN2-30 is a brushless servo motor manufactured by Kollmorgen as part of the VLM Brushless Motors series. It converts drive current into controlled torque for positioning, indexing, and speed-regulated operation in automated packaging lines, gantries, and light process machinery. By combining its winding with digital feedback, the motor provides a closed-loop alternative to stepper motors while retaining the installation footprint expected from a NEMA-class motor. The drive can regulate its torque, speed, and position in response to changing motion commands and operating loads.
The motor is supplied with no brake, so an external mechanism or continuous drive torque must hold the load when the axis is stationary. A factory-molded cable measuring 3 m exits the housing and provides sufficient reach for nearby drive connections. The cable is shielded to limit electromagnetic interference that could affect power delivery or feedback signals. It is supplied as an unterminated shielded cable, allowing a drive-compatible connector to be attached to its open end. The connection code L in the part number indicates this open-ended cable arrangement. A digital feedback device inside the rear cover produces 2048 PPR quadrature signals, providing suitable resolution for controlled motion at moderate speeds. Its 5 V differential feedback format supports communication with compatible servo drives and helps preserve signal integrity in electrically noisy machinery.
The motor body has a NEMA 34 or 90 mm metric frame, enabling attachment to compatible gearboxes or machine plates drilled to the appropriate pattern. Kollmorgen lists the motor with a metric mounting interface, while shaft and mount code A indicates a straight keyed shaft that transfers torque through rigid or keyed couplings. Magnetic power is produced by a rotor with three lamination stacks, providing the active rotor length needed for the motor’s torque capacity. The stator uses winding code J to establish the electrical characteristics required by a compatible servo drive. The keyed shaft provides positive mechanical engagement under changing loads, while the molded cable reduces the number of separate connections at the motor housing. The compact frame also supports installation in automated equipment where available mounting space is limited.
