Product Description:
The VLM31E-AFNC-30 servo motor is manufactured by Kollmorgen as part of the VLM Brushless Motors series. This low-voltage, brushless unit converts electrical power into rotary motion for indexing tables, small conveyors, and general-purpose axes where dependable torque and moderate inertia are important. By integrating feedback, power, and signal leads into one routed bundle, the motor simplifies wiring and helps keep distributed automation cells compact. Because the motor and feedback wiring are combined in one assembly, cable management is also easier on smaller machine frames. This makes the unit suitable for axes that cycle often but do not require a large motor package.
Mechanical interfacing begins with the NEMA 34 or 90 mm metric frame size, so the housing can bolt directly to common gearboxes and machine plates. The mounting face follows a metric pattern, which supports direct installation without an adapter bracket. A factory-installed 3-meter cable carries phase power and feedback conductors from the stator to the drive cabinet, reducing field wiring. Incremental position data is generated by an SFD encoder, and its conductors run inside a shielded cable with Hall effect channels that also carry the three digital Hall signals used for commutation. This arrangement helps preserve feedback quality when the motor is installed near high-current conductors, and it helps maintain stable commutation during rapid starts and stops.
The rotor uses a single stack of laminations, which balances torque output and inertia for short-cycle moves. A keyed shaft identified by code A transfers torque to the driven load, and the keyed output works well with couplings or pulley hubs that rely on positive engagement. The power pigtail is terminated with an S200 power connector for direct connection to compatible Kollmorgen servo amplifiers. The motor is supplied with no brake, so holding force must come from the drive or from an external locking device when the axis is stopped. The internal windings use code E, which suits 320 VDC bus systems and supports continuous duty without additional cooling hardware.
