The TBM series is a new series of direct-drive torque motors manufactured by Kollmorgen. These motors are designed for applications requiring a compact, small form factor with minimized inertia and weight. The TBM-12913-A is part of the TMB family of frameless motors. This motor has a 12-inch motor frame size and has a stack length of 129 inches. This frameless motor has a low cogging design and is RoHS compliant. It has a type ‘A’ winding and stainless-steel yokes for maximum corrosion protection. The TBM-12913-A has a maximum stall torque of 2.87 Nm and a peak stall torque (25˚C winding temp) of 11 Nm. The design voltage for this motor is 100 V and with a peak current of 57 A.
The TBM-12913-A weighs 1.32 kg and has 12 poles. This motor construction is done with permanent magnets and has an In-Line single-ended hollow shaft. Due to a frameless construction, the motor has higher efficiency and requires minimal maintenance as compared to motors with frame. This motor has a thermal resistance of 1.55˚C/watt and has maximum static friction of 0.127 Nm. To avoid overheating, the TBM-12913-A must be housed and mounted to a 7.0” x 7.5” x 0.375” heat sink or equivalent. Several modifications can be made to this motor such as modifying the stack lengths, winding gauges and the thermal sensor. The lead colors and the length can also be modified by the operator.
