Internal Product Review
The SS200D12 is a Kollmorgen SLO-SYN drive built for precise motion control, with 4 kW max motor output and a 20,000 steps/s max step rate. A 1 MHz max pulse frequency and 50,000 pulses/rev max step resolution support crisp command tracking and smooth positioning. Strong electrical headroom from a 350 VDC max bus voltage makes the SS200D12 a very capable drive for demanding automation duty.

Product Description:
The SS200D12 is a stepper motor drive produced by Kollmorgen within the SS2000 SLO-SYN Drives series. The unit converts incoming single-phase or three-phase mains power into precise phase currents that sequence a hybrid stepper motor, allowing deterministic positioning in pick-and-place stations, indexing tables, and general motion stages used in industrial automation. This arrangement supports repeatable incremental motion in applications that rely on direct pulse-command control.
The drive draws up to 16 A of AC line current, so branch conductors and disconnects must be sized accordingly. Inside the power section, a DC bus can rise to 350 VDC, and this voltage supplies the chopper transistors that meter phase energy into coils with a minimum load inductance of 2 mH. Command inputs are accepted at frequencies up to 1 MHz, enabling high-speed pulse trains from modern PLCs or motion cards. At those rates, the controller can advance the motor at 20,000 steps/s, and microstepping logic refines shaft position to 50,000 pulses/rev to reduce vibration. Reliable detection of every trigger is maintained because the optically isolated ports recognize pulses as short as 0.4 microseconds. Line-to-ground transients up to 264 VAC are tolerated, and a recommended branch fuse rated at 250 V protects the supply path.
A separate semiconductor fuse rated at 20 A guards the internal bus and limits fault energy before it reaches the motor load, whose continuous output can approach 4 kW during full-torque moves. Even at that workload, worst-case thermal losses are limited to 200 W, allowing airflow or heat-sink capacity to be sized appropriately inside the enclosure. The chassis measures 9.7 in high, 13.13 in wide, and 7.51 in deep, which allows it to fit standard 19-inch racks with side clearance for ventilation. The unit weighs 18 lb, which helps simplify panel installation and handling.
