Product Description:

The SS2000MD7 is a stepper motor drive produced by Kollmorgen in the SS2000 SLO-SYN Drives series. It interfaces between a motion controller and a two-phase stepper motor, converting command pulses into controlled phase currents so the motor advances in precise increments. By regulating current and timing, the unit supports accurate positioning and speed control in pick-and-place machines, indexing tables, and conveyor systems used in industrial automation.

This model uses a bipolar 2-phase PWM output stage, so each motor phase is driven by pulse-width-modulated current that helps reduce audible noise and torque ripple. The finest selectable resolution is 1/100 microstep, allowing a full-step motor to divide one revolution into 25,600 discrete positions for smooth low-speed motion. Peak winding demand is limited to 7 A, which affects the required power supply and available dynamic torque. Command inputs can be accepted at frequencies up to 500 kHz, so the drive can process pulse streams fast enough for rapid indexing. Internally, the translator can accumulate as many as 20,000 step pulses per revolution, which suits systems that use high-resolution position feedback.

The drive supports rotor speeds up to 3,000 rpm without losing synchronism when the connected motor meets the minimum inductance of 1 mH. Thermal limits are maintained by mounting the unit to a heat sink that must not exceed 70 °C, while convection slots dissipate as much as 40 W under worst-case conditions. Timing performance includes a rise and fall transition of 1 µs on each output edge, and the optically isolated inputs draw 16 mA per signal so they can be driven directly from TTL or PLC sources. The aluminum enclosure measures 111 × 35 × 146 mm, weighs 680 g, operates in 95% non-condensing humidity, and the ancillary control lines respond within 50 µs.
