Product Description:
The SS2000MD4M-0 is a microstepping drive produced by Kollmorgen for the SS2000 SLO-SYN Drives series. It converts step-and-direction command pulses into phased currents for two-phase hybrid stepper motors used in compact pick-and-place modules, small conveyors, and laboratory instruments. By interpolating each full step into finer microsteps, the drive suppresses mechanical resonance, lowers audible noise, and improves positioning resolution, which are important in automation tasks where repeatability and smooth motion are required. Its self-contained bipolar chopper stage eliminates the need for external power electronics.
The input interface accepts pulse streams up to 500 kHz and recognizes edges that are at least 1 µs wide. With a selectable resolution of 20,000 microsteps per revolution, that frequency supports fine positioning while staying within standard PLC counter limits. The current loop suits motors with a phase inductance of at least 0.5 mH. The thermal design allows continuous dissipation of 35 W, provided the attached heat sink remains below 70 °C. A 50% current-reduction feature lowers the phase current when motion stops to limit heating. Control logic responds within 50 µs, and rise and fall times are limited to 1 µs to reduce electromagnetic noise.
The drive housing measures 4.13 inches wide, 3.25 inches deep, and 1.56 inches high, with a mass of 0.6 lb, so DIN-rail adapters can support it without extra bracing. Shaft speeds up to 3,000 rpm are supported when the drive is paired with properly rated SLO-SYN motors. Continuous performance is maintained from sea level up to 10,000 ft, and operation is allowed in noncondensing ambient humidity levels as high as 95%. These operating limits allow the drive to maintain pulse fidelity and microstep accuracy throughout its duty cycle.
