Product Description:

The SS2000D3i is a stepper motor drive and motion controller produced by Kollmorgen in the SS2000 SLO-SYN Drives series. It combines a power stage with an integrated indexer so it can energize two-phase stepper motors directly from an AC mains source while executing stored position sequences. Such consolidation reduces panel wiring and shortens setup time in automated cells that require incremental moves for feeders, small conveyors, or test fixtures.

The drive draws up to 5 A of AC line current and can deliver a maximum phase current of 3 A to the motor windings. For analog velocity or torque trimming, the ±10 V input maintains an accuracy of ±0.3 V and converts the signal with a resolution of 10 bits. The high-speed encoder port accepts quadrature feedback frequencies to 500 kHz and supplies the sensor with 100 mA, allowing fine position verification at rapid traverse rates. Two isolated serial ports support host supervision; the RS-485 channel communicates at up to 38400 baud, while the second port can be dedicated to peripheral diagnostics. These electrical and communication functions allow the drive to coordinate with a PLC and feedback devices without external converters.

An input impedance of 20 kOhms on the analog channel minimizes load on upstream controllers, and eight isolated inputs allow direct connection of limit switches or initiators without shared returns. The unit offers four programmable outputs for interlocking and can be chained with up to 32 identical drives over a single multidrop link. Internal losses are limited to 35 W, so convection cooling is usually sufficient inside a standard cabinet. A width of 2.33 in and a height of 10.78 in let the drive mount beside other control hardware in compact enclosures. The unit weighs 3.94 lb, which helps preserve mounting flexibility while maintaining airflow clearance.

Internal Product Review

  • ‘‘The SS2000D3i is a Kollmorgen SS2000 SLO-SYN drive rated for 5 A AC current with 3 A max phase current. Dual serial ports and support for daisy chaining up to 32 units make integration especially efficient in coordinated motion systems. Encoder handling up to 500 kHz stands out as a strong advantage for precise drive performance.’’
