The S6002 is a two-axis stepper drive produced by Kollmorgen within the SS2000 SLO-SYN Drives series. In multi-axis positioning tables, pick-and-place arms, and other tightly sequenced machinery, the drive converts incoming step and direction pulses into phase-controlled current for matched SLO-SYN motors. One housing controls two axes, allowing a machine controller to coordinate independent linear or rotary movements without mechanical gearing. That arrangement supports synchronized motion where separate axes must operate from a compact drive package.
The power section uses a 160 VDC DC bus that feeds both axes and supports energy recovery during deceleration. Each phase can deliver up to 7.9 A/phase, giving the connected motors enough current for acceleration torque under demanding starts and direction changes. Pulse command inputs accept rates up to 1.25 MHz, and reliable triggering is maintained with a minimum step pulse width of 400 ns. Internal microstepping extends command resolution to 25,400 steps/rev, which helps reduce mid-range resonance and smooth low-speed motion. Apparent input demand can reach 2000 VA, so the drive must be supplied from a source that can handle that electrical load. The unit also includes an opto-isolated NPN open-collector fault output, a depth of 5.9 in, and a heat sink thermal resistance of 1 °C/W for convection cooling.
During idle periods, a standby circuit reduces phase current to 70% after 250 ms, which lowers heat generation without releasing holding torque. The drive shuts down at an internal temperature of 65 °C to protect the power semiconductors, and it can operate in ambient humidity up to 90% RH. A harmonic filter adds -4% third-harmonic content to smooth motor current under light loads and improve running stability at lower torque demand. The rectangular base area of 2.5 in × 9 in supports straightforward mounting on DIN rails or panel plates, and the open-collector fault channel is compatible with PLC inputs that use sourcing logic. The fault output can also be tied into machine interlocks so the control system can react quickly to a shutdown condition.
