The SP20600 servo amplifier is produced by Kollmorgen and belongs to the SP Servostar Servo Drives series. As a closed-loop power stage, it converts fixed-frequency 230 VAC mains power into a regulated three-phase output that controls the position and speed of brushless servomotors used in packaging lines, robotics, and general automation. Control and protection functions built into the unit allow integration with motion controllers while keeping the cabinet footprint compact.

The drive accepts command signals through a Delta Tau interface and conditions them with an analog front end powered by ±15 VDC. Each volt presented at the input translates to 1.70 A/V of commanded motor current, while feedback from the phase sensor is interpreted at 2.12 A/V, aligning the reference and measured scales. The analog supply draws 320 mA, and an 8 VDC bus supports the internal logic rails while requiring only 0.2 A from the host controller. Continuous mechanical output reaches 2.2 kW when the unit is supplied by a 230 VAC source, and the estimated internal power loss of 84 W must be removed by panel airflow. Current is modulated with a carrier frequency of 16 kHz, while a 32 kHz current-ripple component establishes the bandwidth for motor filters. These switching frequencies affect acoustic noise and motor iron losses during operation.

The power stage delivers 6 A continuously and can provide up to 12 A for two seconds to accelerate high-inertia loads. Protective thresholds disconnect the link capacitors at 430 VDC, while the inverter shuts down when the voltage falls to 90 VDC to prevent improper commutation. Silicon sensors initiate a thermal shutdown at 118 °C, helping keep the power devices within their junction temperature limits during stalled or high-temperature operation. External fusing protects the incoming power circuit from excessive current. Machine interlocks can disable operation when connected equipment enters an unsafe state.
