Kollmorgen manufactures the SP10600-504B2 as part of the SP Servostar Servo Drives series. The drive converts fixed-frequency mains power into a high-bandwidth, pulse-width-modulated output that feeds brushless servomotors on assembly lines and packaging cells. By combining power electronics, signal conditioning, and closed-loop regulation, the unit provides torque, speed, and position control while conserving panel space and simplifying field wiring in industrial automation systems.

The control electronics draw 320 mA from an analog rail of ±15 VDC, and the logic section receives a separate 8 VDC supply to isolate signal processing from power switching. The drive supplies a continuous motor phase current of 6 A, while transient demands up to 12 A for two seconds support rapid acceleration. Current is modulated with a carrier frequency of 16 kHz, and motor current ripple is measured at 32 kHz to improve low-speed smoothness. The drive dissipates 84 W internally, so cabinet airflow must remove the resulting heat during operation. The housing is 202 mm deep, 75 mm wide, and 264 mm high, allowing close installation alongside matching Servostar modules.

Protective functions limit electrical and thermal stress during operation. The overvoltage trip activates at 430 VDC, while the undervoltage trip disables motor output at 90 VDC to prevent erratic behavior during mains voltage sags. Silicon temperature sensors disable the gate drive when the heat sink reaches 118 °C, protecting the power stage from excessive temperature. Output power reaches 1.1 kW when the unit operates from a 115 VAC single-phase supply and rises to 2.2 kW with a 230 VAC three-phase supply. Automatic trip-reset logic allows the drive to respond to temporary fault conditions after electrical and thermal values return to acceptable operating levels.
