The SP10300-105A2 is a servo drive released by Kollmorgen within the SP Servostar Servo Drives series. It functions as the power-conditioning and current-loop element for brushless servomotors used in packaging lines, pick-and-place gantries, and other position-controlled machinery. By converting power from a rectified DC bus into a high-frequency PWM output, the unit supplies phase-synchronized current that follows velocity or torque commands from a motion controller. This arrangement allows the connected motor to respond accurately to changing motion demands during acceleration, steady movement, and deceleration.
The drive operates from a DC link of 160 V DC and can deliver a continuous phase current of 3 A RMS. When powered from a 115 VAC source, it supplies up to 0.55 kW of mechanical power, and the available output increases to 1.1 kW with a 230 VAC input. Short load spikes are supported by a two-second peak current of 6 A RMS. The current loop senses motor feedback with a scaling factor of 1.06 A per volt to maintain accurate phase-current regulation. Current ripple is minimized by a 32 kHz internal carrier, while the output modulation is refreshed at a PWM frequency of 16 kHz for smooth torque production. These switching characteristics support responsive current regulation without requiring unusually large filtering components.
The analog command port converts a 0–10 V reference into torque demand using a slope of 0.85 A/V. A 200 mA analog supply rail is available for external potentiometers and related command devices. Logic electronics draw 0.2 A from an isolated 8 V DC rail, helping the control section remain stable during line transients. Internal power dissipation is limited to 37 W, allowing cabinet mounting without forced ventilation when ambient temperatures remain moderate and adequate clearance is provided. Bus protection includes an overvoltage trip set at 430 V DC, and the drive suspends output switching if regenerative energy raises the link beyond this threshold. This protective response prevents continued inverter firing during an excessive rise in bus voltage while allowing the surrounding control system to respond to the fault condition.
