The CP30318 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen as part of the SP Servostar Servo Drives series. It is a compact current-mode amplifier designed to interface with Kollmorgen brushless motors and deliver regulated torque commands in industrial automation cells. By converting single- or three-phase mains power into controlled DC power and a high-frequency PWM output, the unit supplies precise motor current while maintaining a form-factor ratio no greater than 1.01, making it suitable for densely packed control cabinets.
During operation, the drive can furnish a continuous output of 3 Arms, while short overloads are supported at 6 Arms for 2 seconds and at 9 Arms for 500 milliseconds, allowing fast indexing without exceeding thermal limits. The internal bus reaches its rated level after a charge time of 0.25 s, minimizing startup delays. Modulation is handled at a PWM switching frequency of 15.5 kHz, and the resulting current ripple frequency is limited to 31 kHz, improving velocity smoothness in low-inductance windings. Input capability spans 0.35 kVA on a 115 V single-phase source, 0.70 kVA on a 230 V single-phase source, and 1.10 kVA on a 230 V three-phase source, providing flexibility when matching available plant power.
Protective thresholds are integrated into the control logic. Heat dissipation reaches 60 W at full load, and an overtemperature trip activates at 80 °C to prevent component fatigue. Bus voltage is supervised with an overvoltage limit of 430 VDC and an undervoltage cutoff at 90 VDC, so high-line surges and brownouts are blocked before they affect the output stage. The drive tolerates 30 A of instantaneous surge current, supporting brief demand peaks without interrupting normal operation. The overall assembly has a mass of only 1.61 kg, which eases rail mounting and reduces the load placed on lightweight control panels.
