The CB10251 is produced by Kollmorgen for the SP Servostar Servo Drives series. It is a digitally regulated power amplifier that connects to a SERCOS motion bus to control permanent-magnet servomotors in automated assembly cells and material-handling stations. By modulating a three-phase line supply and referencing sine-encoder feedback, it supplies tightly synchronized phase currents so axes reach commanded motion profiles with minimal settling time. In this role, the device forms the bridge between the higher-level controller and the mechanical load, maintaining accuracy and torque throughout continuous production.
A continuous output of 10 A RMS per phase allows the drive to support medium-frame motors during sustained motion, while a surge limit of 20 A RMS per phase delivers short bursts of torque for acceleration or shock absorption. The internal DC link is stabilized at 325 VDC, and an overvoltage shutdown is triggered at 430 VDC to protect the power semiconductors when regenerative energy raises the bus voltage. With a rated output power of 3.5 kW, the amplifier supports conveyors, pumps, and indexing tables within this power class while dissipating 132 W of heat through its baseplate and airflow path. This heat dissipation method requires adequate clearance around the drive to maintain unrestricted airflow inside the control panel.
The current regulator refreshes every 62.5 µs, the velocity algorithm closes at 250 µs, and position corrections are recalculated every 500 µs. These synchronized control cycles operate with a PWM carrier frequency of 8 kHz, producing low torque ripple across the speed range. Long-term speed deviation is held to 0.01% when sine-encoder feedback is available, helping the connected axis maintain stable motion under changing loads. The logic circuits accept a 230 V auxiliary supply, and the enclosure weighs 2.69 kg, allowing panel installation without heavy structural supports.
