The S7720F-SEF2-S4 is a servo drive issued by Kollmorgen for the S700 Servo Drives series. It regulates torque, velocity, and position of compatible servo motors in automated machinery. This gives motion controllers a controlled interface to the motor and the incoming three-phase power source. It is suited for production equipment that requires coordinated axis movement, repeatable positioning, and stable speed regulation under changing loads. Control data reach the unit through the Slot 1 SERCOS II interface, and a 24 V DC auxiliary supply keeps the logic active when line power is removed.

This drive accepts a line voltage of 208–480 V from a three-phase AC source and converts it to a pulse-width-modulated output that switches at 8 kHz. Under continuous operation, it delivers 72 Arms, while the power stage supports a thermal limit of 50 kVA apparent power. For rapid acceleration, the current regulator permits peaks up to 140 Arms to support short-term overload demand on high-inertia axes. The housing measures 386 × 190 × 244 mm and uses an internal fan controlled through the dedicated expansion card for ventilation. It has an IP20 enclosure rating, so it must be installed inside a protective cabinet, and standard or conformal-coated PCBs are available for areas with moisture or airborne contamination.

A transient overload window of 5 s limits heat buildup when the peak current range is used, and thermal feedback from the fan controller returns the drive to nominal output automatically. Functional safety is provided by a dual-channel STO circuit, which removes torque without external relays. When the optional S2-2 safety card is installed, the drive reaches SIL CL2 / PLd performance for risk-reduction tasks. Total mass is limited to 13 kg, which supports mounting on standard DIN plates. The fan supply is voltage-isolated from the main low-voltage rail, which simplifies the internal power arrangement.
