The S7720F-SEF2-F2 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S700 Servo Drives series. It is designed to regulate torque, speed, and position of synchronous or induction servo motors in automated machinery, bridging the motion controller and the motor with closed-loop power conversion. By combining drive algorithms with integrated safety features, the unit supports high-performance axes in packaging, semiconductor handling, and material forming lines.

It operates from a three-phase supply of 208 to 480 V, drawing a continuous phase current of 72 Arms while handling up to 50 kVA of input power on the DC bus. For rapid acceleration or disturbance rejection, the inverter can deliver 140 Arms for short intervals. Waste heat under full 480 V loading reaches 1135 W, a figure used to size cabinet ventilation. The internal DC link holds 900 µF of capacitance, and the minimum permitted motor inductance at 480 V is 0.61 mH to limit current ripple. Communication with the motion controller is through a SERCOS II fieldbus, while an expansion slot accepts a dedicated fan-controller card. Physical dimensions are 385 mm high, 190 mm wide, and 243 mm deep with all connectors fitted, allowing side-by-side installation inside IP-rated cabinets that do not exceed 40 °C ambient.

Control electronics are powered from a 24 VDC auxiliary line, allowing logic functions to stay active when the main supply is isolated. The integrated brake transistor supports external holding brakes up to 3 A, enabling controlled stops without separate relays. Dual-channel STO circuitry is included so drive torque can be safely removed by a functional-safety PLC. The housing carries an IP20 protection rating and therefore must be mounted inside a sealed enclosure. Standard or coated PCBs can be specified to help protect against dust and moisture.
