The S7720F-PNF2-S4 is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the S700 Servo Drives series. It conditions three-phase power, processes feedback, and outputs regulated current for high-precision motion axes used in industrial automation lines, packaging machines, and material-handling systems. It is intended for servo applications where accurate current regulation supports stable speed and position control under changing loads. Dual RJ45 ports provide Profinet connectivity for integration with higher-level control networks.

The drive delivers a continuous phase current of 72 Arms and can supply momentary peaks up to 140 Arms during acceleration or shock loads. Its input section accepts line voltages from 208 to 480 V and switches at 8 kHz to synthesize the motor waveform. A power rating of 50 kVA is the maximum apparent power the converter draws under nominal conditions, and the internal safety chain is certified to SIL CL2 / PLd. A dual-channel STO circuit removes gate-drive power for emergency torque-off, while a residual voltage drop of 6 V remains across the output stage when it is conducting. The heat-sink fan starts at 80 °C and is controlled by an expansion card that also monitors airflow. Minimum permissible motor inductance is 0.61 mH at 480 V to limit current ripple, output dv/dt is 4.8 kV/µs, average acoustic emission is 68 dB(A), and line contactors should not exceed 30 switching cycles per hour.

During continuous operation at 400 V, the S700 dissipates 1005 W of heat that must be removed from the cabinet. Mixed RT/IRT Mode allows deterministic motion-control traffic to share the same Ethernet cabling as standard automation messages. The assembled unit weighs 13 kg and houses the power semiconductors, capacitors, and forced-air tunnel in one enclosure. Cabinet ventilation must account for this heat load during sustained operation.
