The S7720F-PNF2-PM servo drive is manufactured by Kollmorgen as part of the S700 Servo Drives series. Installed between a three-phase mains source and a servo motor, it modulates power to maintain commanded speed, torque, and position in automated packaging, material-handling, and machining equipment. The unit rectifies and inverts the incoming supply while integrating safety and fieldbus functions required for coordinated multi-axis operation in industrial automation cells.

The drive accepts a line voltage range of 208 to 480 V and provides a continuous output of 72 Arms. At that current, its power section can deliver up to 50 kVA to the motor windings. The IGBT bridge switches at 8 kHz, allowing fast current loops with reduced audible noise. A dual-channel STO system interrupts gate signals for category-rated emergency stops. Idle thermal loss is 24 W, which helps simplify enclosure cooling calculations. The aluminum housing is 386 mm high, 190 mm wide, and 244 mm deep, so it fits standard 400 mm cabinets. The option list includes standard and coated PCBs, and the coated build increases resistance to condensation and airborne contaminants. An optional fan-controller expansion card drives auxiliary blowers when additional heat extraction is needed.

Mechanical installation mass is 13 kg. Two dual RJ45 sockets provide a real-time PROFINET interface, eliminating external switches for single-axis applications. The integrated brake chopper channels surplus energy to external hardware rated at 8 kW and matched to a 10-ohm resistor, preventing DC-bus overvoltage during rapid deceleration. Cabinet airflow directed by the optional fan controller removes switching and regeneration losses so full current can be sustained without derating. When ordered with the PM coating option, all populated boards receive a conformal layer that shields conductors from dust and moisture.
