The S7720F-PNF2-F2 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S700 Servo Drives series. It is a stand-alone drive controller designed to supply controlled three-phase power to synchronous or induction servomotors in automated machinery, providing closed-loop velocity and torque regulation for axes that require precise positioning, coordinated motion, or high-speed throughput on factory lines. Safety inputs support Dual channel STO, enabling immediate torque removal on both power paths without fully powering down the drive.

This model accepts mains voltages from 208–480 V and can draw up to 50 kVA of input power, so cabinet wiring and protection devices must be sized for that demand. Under normal load, it delivers a continuous phase current of 72 Arms, while short duty cycles can reach a peak of 140 Arms to handle rapid acceleration events. A built-in Ethernet controller supports PROFINET over the copper interface listed as 100Base-TX, allowing direct integration with PLCs that exchange real-time cyclic data. Communication takes place through the X50 and X51 RJ-45 ports, and an external 10 Ω brake resistor connection lets the application dissipate regenerated energy when decelerating high-inertia loads. When network power is off, a continuous brake power rating of 8 kW provides dynamic braking for connected motors. The optional fan controller expansion card monitors enclosure airflow, switching the ambient fan at 65 °C and the heat-sink fan at 80 °C to keep silicon temperatures within limits.

Mechanical installation is simplified by an IP20 housing that measures 505 mm in height, 190 mm in width, and 285 mm in depth once connectors are installed. The unit weighs 13 kg, so standard 35 mm DIN rail brackets or panel bolts are sufficient for support. Printed-circuit boards are available in standard and coated versions to help resist moisture in aggressive environments, while the option to fit X50/X51 PROFINET connectors helps maintain signal integrity. The enclosure leaves space for airflow around the heat sink and accommodates an expansion fan module to stabilize internal temperatures during sustained high-duty operation.
