The S7720F-PBF2-PM is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the S700 Servo Drives series. It converts three-phase mains power into precisely modulated output for synchronous or induction motors used in industrial automation. By combining current regulation, safety logic, and field-replaceable expansion slots, the unit provides closed-loop motion control for packaging lines, metalworking equipment, and material-handling axes. Its control structure supports repeatable torque delivery during frequent starts, stops, and load changes.

The drive delivers a continuous phase current of 72 Arms, and its output stage operates at a carrier frequency of 8 kHz to reduce torque ripple. For rapid acceleration or disturbance rejection, it can supply a peak current of 140 Arms without exceeding thermal limits. Incoming power up to 50 kVA is managed by the DC link and converted into controlled motor output, and at 400 V operation the drive releases 1005 W of heat that must be removed by panel ventilation. An internal fan controller expansion card adjusts airflow in response to temperature, while quiescent dissipation remains 24 W when the output stage is disabled. Semiconductor topology keeps the residual voltage drop to 6 V, which helps limit losses during high current flow.

The unit accepts mains in the range of 208–480 V and meets functional safety requirements through a dual-channel STO interface that removes torque within milliseconds. Cabinet layout is eased by a depth of 244 mm, a width of 190 mm, and a height of 386 mm, and these dimensions do not include front-mounted connectors. Weighing 13 kg, the aluminum chassis mounts vertically to maintain upward airflow through the cabinet. Conformal coating on all boards resists humidity and conductive dust so the drive can operate in harsh production areas.
