The S7720F-PBF2-NA is a Kollmorgen S700 servo drive used to regulate synchronous and induction motors in automated machinery. By converting three-phase mains power into controlled output, it provides the closed-loop torque and velocity control required for positioning tables, packaging lines, and similar motion axes. Within the S700 Servo Drives series, this model supports motors with inductance down to 0.51 mH at 400 V and can dissipate regenerated energy through a 10 Ohm external brake resistor, which suits axes that decelerate frequently. That control method also helps the drive handle steady-speed operation and repeated acceleration changes under varying load conditions.

The drive accepts a line supply of 208…480 V and delivers a continuous phase current of 72 Arms, while dynamic moves can reach 140 Arms. Its output current form factor of 1.01 indicates nearly sinusoidal waveforms and helps limit motor heating, while also supporting smoother motor operation during low-speed regulation. Input demand can reach 50 kVA, and an overvoltage trip at 800 V (F02) protects the DC link from surges. Communication with the PLC is handled over PROFIBUS DP through two 9-pin D-sub ports, and a temperature-controlled fan controller expansion card adjusts cooling airflow to match internal heat. The housing measures 190 mm wide, 285 mm deep with connectors, and 505 mm high, allowing the unit to fit standard 300 mm cabinet frames. Functional safety is integrated through a dual-channel STO, which removes torque when both channels are de-energized.
