Product Description:
The S7720F-FBF2-S4 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S700 Servo Drives series. It converts three-phase mains power into regulated motor current so that servo and induction motors can maintain commanded torque, speed, or position in automated cells, conveyors, and processing machines. Integrated brake energy handling supports axes that cycle quickly and return energy during deceleration. Functional safety is also built in, allowing the drive to reach a safe torque-off state during emergency stops without requiring a separate external safety module for that basic function.
The drive supplies a continuous motor current of 72 Arms, and it can deliver a peak output of 140 Arms during short acceleration or load transients. Its power section can draw up to 50 kVA from a three-phase mains supply, while the internal brake stage can absorb 8 kW continuously and up to 70 kW in short pulses at the upper end of the input range. A 10 Ω external brake resistor can be connected when additional thermal absorption is needed during frequent braking cycles. The secondary encoder port provides 5 VDC at 300 mA for incremental or absolute feedback devices. Dual-channel STO circuitry removes drive output when both safety inputs are open, which supports safe shutdown of motor torque.
The input range spans 208 to 480 V, and the inverter switches at 8 kHz to balance current ripple with switching losses. Cooling is handled by a controlled fan that starts when the heat sink reaches 65 °C and is monitored by an embedded expansion card that acts as the fan controller. Maximum acoustic output remains below 68 dB(A), which helps keep cabinet noise at a moderate level during operation. The control boards use protective conformal coating to help guard the electronics from dust and other contamination inside the enclosure. The unit has a transport weight of 13 kg, which keeps the drive manageable during panel installation.
