The S7720F-EIF2-S4 is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the S700 Servo Drives series. It functions as the power and control interface between a plant’s motion controller and its synchronous or induction servo motors, delivering the commanded torque and speed profiles required in packaging lines, material-handling systems, and machining centers. As an S700 Servo Drive, it integrates drive electronics, safety functions, and braking energy management in a single enclosure to simplify cabinet layout and reduce wiring. This arrangement reduces the number of separate cabinet components needed for a working axis.

This model operates from a three-phase supply in the 208 to 480 V range and draws a maximum of 50 kVA under rated load. At that point, it supplies a continuous phase current of 72 Arms, while short demand peaks can reach 140 Arms to cover rapid acceleration or impact loads. The internal IGBTs switch at 8 kHz, giving the current loop a fast update rate and minimizing torque ripple on low-inductance motors. Braking energy is handled internally up to a continuous level of 8 kW, and excess energy can be routed to a 10 Ω external brake resistor to keep the DC bus within limits. A residual voltage drop of 6 V across the power stage reduces heating and improves efficiency. Dual-channel safe torque off prevents unintended motion, and the fan controller expansion card maintains airflow based on thermal demand to limit acoustic output.

The housing is 190 mm wide, 285 mm deep with connectors, and 505 mm high, yet it weighs only 13 kg, permitting vertical panel mounting without heavy reinforcement. Noise emission stays below 68 dB(A) at full load, supporting installation near operators. Standard and coated PCBs are available, and the delivered unit features a coated finish to enhance resistance to moisture and airborne contaminants. That arrangement supports use in cabinets where dust, humidity, or airborne residue would be harder on uncoated electronics.
