The S7720F-EIF2-S3 is a drive produced by Kollmorgen and positioned within the S700 Servo Drives series. Designed for machine tools, packaging lines, and robotics, the unit acts as the power interface between a motion controller and rotary or linear servomotors, regulating current and voltage so the axis follows commanded torque, speed, or position profiles. Its enclosure stands 505 mm tall, 190 mm wide, and 285 mm deep, giving the drive a slim yet high-power footprint for multi-axis automation.

Electrically, the drive accepts a three-phase supply within a range of 208–480 V and is protected upstream by an 80 A AC line fuse. Under continuous load, it delivers 72 Arms to the motor, while transient demands up to 140 Arms can be sustained for five seconds; the supply side must therefore accommodate a 50 kVA apparent power draw during full-speed operation. Current is pulse-width modulated at an 8 kHz switching frequency, allowing fine torque control and low motor ripple. Fourteen additional digital inputs and eight digital outputs are provided for local sequence logic, over-travel switches, or system interlocks. A dedicated expansion slot carries a fan controller card that supervises both the internal blower and the heat-sink fan, energizing them at 65 °C inside the housing and 80 °C on the heat sink to stabilize semiconductor temperature.

The drive incorporates a dual channel STO circuit that meets SIL CL3 and PLe requirements when wired with suitable sensors, so motor torque is reliably removed during an emergency stop without interrupting the drive’s logic power. Acoustic output is limited to 68 dB(A) at full load, which simplifies placement in operator work areas. Standard and coated printed circuit boards are offered, and the coated variant improves resistance to condensation or airborne contaminants.
