The S7720F-EIF2-NA is a servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen as part of the S700 Servo Drives series. Designed to regulate torque, speed, and position of synchronous or induction servomotors, the unit forms the active interface between a facility’s motion controller and the motor windings. It accepts EtherCAT and CANopen commands directly on its onboard fieldbus ports and can be ordered with standard or coated printed-circuit boards for harsh atmospheres. An optional fan-controller expansion card adds temperature-dependent airflow management to maintain internal operating limits.

Within that framework, the power stage is sized for a line supply of 208–480 V, allowing the same drive to accommodate worldwide three-phase mains. Under continuous duty it can deliver 72 Arms, while short bursts such as indexing moves are served by a peak of 140 Arms. The input bridge is rated for 50 kVA and chops the DC link at 8 kHz so motor current ripple stays low at higher speeds. Kollmorgen specifies a minimum motor inductance of 0.61 mH at 480 V to keep the current loop stable. To safeguard the supply, an 80 A external fuse is fitted, and dynamic braking energy is routed through a 100 A resistor fuse.

Heat generated during switching is removed through the optional fan controller; at full rating the drive dissipates 1135 W into the cabinet. The housing carries an IP20 designation, so finger-safe protection is provided but additional enclosure is required against dust or fluids. The internal DC bus can climb to 900 VDC, and a hardware chain with dual channel STO disables gate pulses to achieve a safe torque-off when requested by an external safety PLC. Acoustic output measured at one meter is limited to 68 dB(A). Printed-circuit boards are available in a coated finish that resists humidity and airborne contaminants, complementing the EtherCAT and CANopen communication ports.
