The S7720F-2CF2-S3 is a servo amplifier produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S700 Servo Drives series. It receives AC line power and converts it into controlled current for synchronous or induction servomotors, enabling closed-loop motion in conveyors, pick-and-place axes, and process lines. Integrated fieldbus wiring and safety inputs let the drive occupy a single slot in centralized or distributed machine architectures while maintaining deterministic performance during high-duty production cycles. The cabinet-mounted format combines power conversion, feedback processing, and network communication in one drive package.

The drive is rated for a continuous phase current of 72 Arms, giving it headroom to accelerate medium-inertia motors without derating. Its power stage uses insulated-gate transistors that commutate at 8 kHz, a switching frequency that balances control bandwidth with manageable switching losses. On a 480 V supply, the enclosure must shed 1135 W of heat. Accordingly, a removable expansion card acts as the fan controller and starts the blower when the heat sink reaches 65 °C. The wide input window of 208–480 V permits installation on both North American and European mains. At the electrical service entrance, the inverter draws up to 50 kVA of continuous apparent power, so mains contactors and cable ampacity must be sized accordingly. The integrated dual-channel STO function disconnects the gate drives for a safe torque-off response without relays, and a built-in termination resistor of 120 Ω simplifies daisy-chaining on the CANopen network. When idle, the control electronics dissipate only 24 W, helping cabinet temperatures stay close to ambient. A mass of 13 kg supports stable panel mounting while still providing enough aluminum for thermal conduction. Its aluminum housing also helps move internal losses toward the cooled surfaces.
