The S7720C-PNF2-S3 is a servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen for the S700 Servo Drives series. Designed for multi-axis automation, the unit converts the plant’s AC supply to a regulated DC bus, processes feedback, and delivers high-bandwidth current control to brushless servo motors. Integrated Profinet communication makes it suitable for tightly coordinated motion tasks in packaging lines, printing presses, and production robotics.

The drive accepts an input range of 208 to 480 V at the mains terminals and internally boosts it to a DC link of 290 to 675 V DC, providing the headroom required for rapid accelerations. Under continuous duty, the power stage supplies 72 A rms, while overload events can be handled with 140 A rms for up to 5 s before current is automatically reduced. These current limits set the maximum mechanical torque that the connected motor can generate, and they help the thermal model protect the power semiconductors and attached wiring. Line frequency tolerance covers 50 or 60 Hz, and the residual voltage drop across the internal contactors is held to 6 V to minimize losses during regeneration.

With an apparent input capacity of 50 kVA, the S7720C-PNF2-S3 can energize large axis groups without external boosters. The IGBT bridge switches at 8 kHz, balancing current ripple against switching loss, while the cold-plate option routes heat to a chassis exchanger. During full-load operation at 480 V, the electronics dissipate 1135 W, yet only dual-channel STO logic remains powered after the fan controller turns off at standstill, reducing standby loss to 24 W. Two RJ45 ports support Profinet RT and IRT messaging, LLDP network discovery, and I&M data for asset tracking. When the heat sink temperature rises above 65 °C, the internal fan starts automatically, and the 13 kg assembly can be mounted in any orientation on a liquid-cooled panel.
