Product Description:

The S7720C-NANA-S3 is a servo amplifier from Kollmorgen that fits into the S700 Servo Drives series. It converts three-phase mains power into controlled AC for synchronous or induction motors in automated machinery. As a cold-plate variant, the unit is designed to bolt to an external heat sink, making it suitable for dense multi-axis installations that already provide liquid or chilled-plate cooling capacity. This arrangement also helps keep the drive compact when cabinet space is limited and centralized thermal management is already part of the machine design.

At the electrical interface, the drive accepts supplies from 208 to 480 V and is protected by an 80 A AC line fuse. Under continuous duty, it supplies 72 Arms, while transient events can be covered with 140 Arms, allowing short bursts of torque without overheating. The internal PWM bridge switches at 8 kHz, so motor current ripple stays low when phase inductance is at least 0.61 mH at 480 V. A current form factor of 1.01 indicates that RMS and average values are nearly identical, which helps the drive remain within the 50 kVA input rating. The enclosure carries the IP20 designation, so it must be installed in a control cabinet where touch protection and protection from debris are already provided. EtherCAT and CANopen are built in, which simplifies network integration for motion control and machine-level communication.

Functional safety is handled by the S1-2 (S3) card, which provides dual-channel STO and reaches SIL CL3, matching a performance level of PLe. During each start-stop sequence, the unit may be energized up to 30 times per hour, and the residual DC link drop is limited to 6 V when it turns off. When running at 400 V, the cold plate must remove 1005 W of thermal loss, assisted by the low 4.8 kV/µs voltage rise that helps moderate motor insulation stress. Acoustic output reaches 68 dB(A), which supports installation in enclosed automation systems where noise control remains important. These operating characteristics suit applications that need strong current capacity, integrated communication, and compact thermal management in the same drive package.
