Kollmorgen’s S7720C-NAF2-NA is an S700 servo drive in the S700 Servo Drives series. This unit conditions three-phase power and regulates current so that connected servo motors follow motion commands from CNC or PLC controllers. Its compact format simplifies cabinet layouts and supports high-throughput positioning tasks. It is intended for motion systems that need stable torque control, repeatable speed regulation, and a drive package that fits neatly into industrial control cabinets.
The power section is rated for a continuous motor current of 72 Arms, while bursts up to 140 Arms are available for acceleration or shock loads. To support those currents, the supply side can deliver 50 kVA. The internal H-bridge is clocked at 8 kHz, which helps limit ripple and supports an output current form factor of 1.01. The DC link is protected by an overvoltage trip that activates at 800 V when the line is 400 V. Braking energy can be dissipated inside the unit, which can absorb 8 kW continuously, or through a 10 Ω external brake resistor. The drive also supports a minimum permissible motor inductance of 0.61 mH at 480 V and a voltage rise rate of 4.8 kV/µs. It allows 30 starts per hour, and at 400 V the heat sink must remove 1005 W during operation and 24 W when idle.
The enclosure carries an IP20 rating, so the drive is intended for installation inside a control cabinet. Forced airflow is handled by the supplied fan controller expansion card, and a cold-plate option is available for direct mounting to machine frames to improve thermal conduction. Safe torque off is implemented as dual-channel STO, which supports Category 3 safety architectures without requiring contactors for that function. The drive accepts mains in the 208 to 480 V range and presents a residual DC-link voltage drop of 6 V during switching events. Acoustic emission is limited to 68 dB(A) at nominal load, which helps keep equipment-room noise under control.
