Product Description:

The S7720C-FBF2-PA is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen for the S700 Servo Drives series. Serving as the intermediate power stage between the mains and the motor, it modulates voltage and current in real time so closed-loop controllers can position axes accurately, stop them safely, and recover energy through braking resistors during deceleration. Its application scope covers multi-axis gantries, web processing machines, and high-speed pick-and-place stations.

Designed for mid-to-high power axes, the drive accepts line voltages from 208–480 V and can draw up to 50 kVA of apparent power at the input. At the motor terminals, it delivers a continuous phase current of 72 Arms, while short demands can reach 140 Arms without triggering overcurrent faults. The internal IGBT bridge switches at 8 kHz, keeping the output current form factor at 1.01 so RMS and average values remain almost identical. A residual voltage drop of 6 V across the power stage helps minimize losses, and a continuous brake channel can dissipate 8 kW when dynamic stopping is required. Motors with inductances down to 0.61 mH are supported, and the controller permits 30 switching operations per hour to connect or isolate power without excessive heating.

The housing rises to 386 mm, spans 190 mm in width, and extends 244 mm in depth, yet the assembly weighs only 13 kg so cabinet installation is manageable. Heat generated during nominal operation exits through a coldplate interface; under a 400 V bus, the measured dissipation is 1005 W, and airflow is coordinated by an integrated fan controller expansion card. For energy dumping during deceleration, a 10 Ω brake resistor can be attached to the designated terminals. Functional safety is covered by a dual-channel STO circuit that removes gate signals on demand. Acoustic output is limited to 68 dB(A).
