The S7720C-FBF2-NA is a Kollmorgen servo drive in the S700 Servo Drives series. As a drive controller, it regulates current, voltage, and feedback signals to run synchronous or induction servo motors used in automated machinery, material-handling stations, and packaging lines. The drive communicates over EtherCAT & CANopen, allowing deterministic motion commands and straightforward integration with coordinated axis control. This makes it suitable for axes that require controlled acceleration, steady speed regulation, and accurate response to changing load conditions.

An AC mains line protected by an 80 A supply fuse feeds the power section, while dynamic braking energy is routed through a dedicated circuit safeguarded by a 100 A brake-resistor fuse. The drive delivers a continuous phase current of 72 Arms at a line capacity up to 50 kVA, supporting grids from 208 to 480 V without tap changes. Fan cooling is managed by an internal fan controller, and a coldplate option allows mounting on a liquid-cooled panel. When the coldplate is used, part of the thermal load can be transferred to the mounting surface instead of remaining in cabinet air. Brake energy can be dissipated in an external 10 Ω resistor, sustaining 8 kW of continuous brake power. Internal logic interfaces draw 300 mA from the X32 connector at 5 VDC and 500 mA from the X33 connector for auxiliary I/O. Measured residual DC-link drop under full load is 6 V, and maximum acoustic noise is 68 dB(A).

Over-voltage protection trips at 900 V @ 480 V to protect the bus capacitors during high-line operation. Heat released to the cabinet is limited to 1135 W @ 480 V, which helps when the drive is installed in enclosed control panels with other power components. The unit also integrates a dual-channel STO circuit that removes torque in safety stop conditions. This safety function supports applications where commanded torque must be shut off without relying on mechanical disconnection.
