Product Description:

Kollmorgen manufactures the S7720C-EIF2-F2, a member of the S700 Servo Drives series. This drive conditions three-phase power and modulates it into controlled current for brushless servo motors, enabling precise positioning, speed regulation, and torque control in automated assemblies, packaging equipment, and machine tools. Through fieldbus links and built-in I/O, the unit forms the power stage inside a closed-loop motion axis while monitoring internal temperature and line conditions for reliable operation.

The unit operates from 208 to 480 V mains and supplies a continuous output of 72 Arms with overload headroom up to 140 Arms for brief acceleration periods. Its IGBT bridge is pulsed at 8 kHz, and the front end can draw 50 kVA during maximum mechanical load. Functional safety is addressed by the dual-channel STO circuit, which removes energy to the motor without delays caused by external relays. A dv/dt value of 4.8 kV/µs limits cable stress, while the output current form factor of 1.01 reduces additional motor heating. Fourteen digital inputs and eight digital outputs are available, and each command is latched within 10 ms for deterministic motion sequencing. The stage adds only 6 V of residual drop, conserving bus voltage for dynamic response.

Cooling demands are handled by a cold plate assembly and a plug-in fan controller. The controller starts the heat sink blower once the surface reaches 80 °C or when internal air climbs to 65 °C. Under rated power, the drive dissipates 1135 W into the panel, yet only 24 W when disabled, simplifying standby thermal design. Motor selections must exhibit at least 0.61 mH of inductance to remain compatible with the switching profile, and emitted sound stays below 68 dB(A) so additional acoustic treatment is unnecessary. The available cold-plate interface helps route waste heat to liquid coolers, keeping cabinet temperatures within acceptable limits.
