Product Description:

The S7720C-2CF2-S3 is manufactured by Kollmorgen for the S700 Servo Drives series. As a servo drive, it converts the incoming three-phase mains into controlled motor currents so that automation axes can follow precise position, speed, and torque commands. This model supports cold-plate mounting, allowing it to share a common thermal interface inside machinery where cabinet airflow is limited.

The drive accepts line voltages between 208–480 V, and at that range it can draw up to 50 kVA of input power. Under continuous duty the output stage supplies 72 Arms, while short acceleration bursts are handled at a ceiling of 140 Arms. An internal clock running at 8 kHz switches the IGBTs, giving adequate bandwidth for modern servo loops. The minimum motor inductance allowed at 400 V is 0.51 mH, and the form factor of 1.01 keeps current ripple low. Up to 30 start–stop cycles per hour are permitted, helped by a residual voltage drop of only 6 V across the power stage. Safety is implemented with dual-channel STO, and two SBC output poles are available for contactor control.

An overvoltage threshold of 900 VDC protects the link capacitors, while regenerative peaks are routed to the internal brake where pulse loads to 70 kW and continuous dissipation of 8 kW are supported; an external 10 Ω resistor can be added if more energy needs to be bled. Total heat rejected to the cold plate reaches 1005 W at 400 V operation, so the fan-controller expansion card is provided for auxiliary cooling. Drive electronics communicate on CANopen at a default 500 kBaud rate, and a 120 Ω termination resistor is fitted for the bus end. The option detail labeled “Coldplate” removes the standard heatsink, trimming size while still meeting the on/off frequency limit and keeping the brake power figures within specification.
