The S7720C-2CF2-PA is a digital servo amplifier produced by Kollmorgen for the S700 Servo Drives series. As a drive, it interfaces between a motion controller and a permanent-magnet motor to regulate torque, speed, and position in industrial automation cells. It supports closed-loop axis control where stable response to command changes and load variation is required. A 120 Ω CAN termination resistor is integrated for fieldbus daisy-chain ends.

The unit accepts three-phase line supplies from 208 to 480 V and delivers a continuous output of 72 Arms, with a short-term capability of 140 Arms for rapid acceleration events. Internal power electronics are sized for a nominal apparent input of 50 kVA and switch the motor windings at 8 kHz to reduce current ripple. Analog command channels cover a ±10 V range with 20 kΩ input impedance and 1.25 mV resolution. The two feedback outputs use the same ±10 V range and provide 0.38 mV resolution for monitoring. The drive introduces only a 6 V residual drop between the DC bus and motor terminals. For dynamic braking, an external 10 Ω resistor can dissipate up to 8 kW of regenerated energy. A plug-in fan controller expansion card is present, and the coldplate option supports conduction cooling when panel airflow is limited.

A dual-channel STO circuit provides redundant hardware shutdown for machinery safety functions. When the unit is powered from 400 V, switching losses reach 1005 W (400 V), and forced ventilation starts at an internal temperature of 65 °C. With the auxiliary fan operating, airborne sound stays below 68 dB(A) at a distance of one meter. The remaining thermal load is about 1 kW and must be removed by the coldplate or the fan. This shutdown function can remove torque-producing power without relying on software action during a stop request.
