The S7720A-SNF2-S4 servo drive is manufactured by Kollmorgen and belongs to the S700 Servo Drives series. It supplies closed-loop control of brushless servomotors in packaging lines, robotics, and general motion systems by converting the plant’s three-phase mains into precisely metered motor current. The product integrates monitoring functions that support safety-oriented automation and routine status supervision during operation.

The drive accepts 208–480 V AC and, under continuous load, draws a rated current of 72 Arms while its power electronics can supply a peak of 140 Arms for short acceleration bursts. A converter front end sized for 50 kVA ensures that the DC bus has sufficient energy at maximum load. The output stage switches at 8 kHz, allowing high-bandwidth torque loops and minimizing audible ripple. During each transition, the devices impose a dv/dt of 4.8 kV/µs, so motor cabling must be selected accordingly. Motors connected to this model require at least 0.61 mH of phase inductance at 480 V to keep current ripple within tolerance. During standby, the electronics dissipate 24 W of quiescent heat, a value used when estimating base cabinet temperature rise.

At full load and 480 V, the drive produces 1135 W of loss heat, which the optional cold plate and coated PCBs help channel away from sensitive components. The device conforms to SIL CL2 / PLd and provides dual-channel STO for emergency torque removal without external contactors. A fan controller expansion card starts the integrated blower when the internal temperature reaches 65 °C, and acoustic output is limited to 68 dB(A). For networked motion, a SynqNet fieldbus interface is available through two RJ-45 ports. The housing measures 386 mm in height, 190 mm in width, and weighs 13 kg, dimensions that fit standard control enclosures while leaving room for wiring bends.
