Kollmorgen manufactures the S7720A-SNF2-PA within the S700 Servo Drives series. This servo drive converts three-phase input power into precisely modulated motor current so that motion controllers can impose accurate torque, velocity, and position commands on industrial axes. In automated packaging lines, material-handling gantries, or process machines, the unit sits between the PLC and the motor, supplying regulated energy while monitoring feedback and fault channels to maintain predictable performance and protect connected equipment from overload or loss of phase. This placement lets the drive act as the electrical link between high-level axis commands and the motor’s immediate current response.

The drive accepts a three-phase input rated at 208–480 V and operates on the universal 50/60 Hz grid, making it adaptable to most plant power systems. During continuous duty, it supplies 72 Arms to the motor and can process up to 50 kVA through its power stage, while the residual DC-bus drop is limited to 6 V during line-voltage sag conditions. An integrated cold-plate heat sink and coated PCBs support operation in contaminated atmospheres, while idle thermal dissipation stays at 24 W. Cooling airflow is regulated by a dedicated fan-controller expansion card, and overall acoustic emission remains below 68 dB(A). The enclosure is classified IP20, so the unit must be mounted inside a control cabinet that restricts dust ingress and accidental finger contact.

For short dynamic bursts, the inverter supplies 140 Arms for up to 5 s, assisted by an IGBT bridge that switches at 8 kHz to keep current ripple low. Overcurrent protection is coordinated with RK5, CC, J, or T fuses, and the branch circuit rating must not exceed 80 A. The approved fuse classes identify the protective devices used on the line connection. A safety input provides dual-channel STO, allowing immediate torque removal without disabling the power stage. Status monitoring can remain active during a safety shutdown.
