The S7720A-PNF2-S3 is a drive module manufactured by Kollmorgen and included in the S700 Servo Drives series. It connects directly to industrial controllers through two RJ45 PROFINET ports, enabling deterministic communication for coordinated multi-axis motion. By rectifying and modulating the incoming AC supply, the unit delivers precise phase currents to brushless servo motors for positioning, speed, and torque tasks on packaging lines, robot joints, and material-handling equipment.

This unit is an S700 servo drive and delivers a continuous output current of 72 Arms while accepting line voltages from 208–480 V. Its IGBT bridge switches at 8 kHz, and motors connected to the drive must provide at least 0.51 mH of inductance at 400 V so voltage ripple stays within limits. Under nominal conditions, the output current form factor remains at 1.01, which helps keep RMS heating predictable. The mains input can draw up to 50 kVA and is protected by an 80 A fuse. DC-link residual voltage during energy return is limited to 6 V, and a cold plate with coated PCBs supports thermal performance and board protection. The dedicated fan-controller expansion card powers auxiliary blowers when the F2 sensor reaches 65 °C to reduce thermal derating.

During deceleration, the drive can route excess energy to an external 10 Ω resistor while supplying the motor brake with 3 A, supporting continuous brake power of 8 kW. Machine safety is enhanced by the integrated dual-channel STO, which removes gate commands to the power stage without shutting down system power. At full load, the heat sink releases 1005 W, while only 24 W are produced when the outputs are disabled, which simplifies cabinet cooling during standby. Acoustic emissions remain below 68 dB(A), allowing installation in operator areas without additional sound barriers.
