The S7720A-NAF2-S4 is a servo drive from Kollmorgen's S700 Servo Drives series. It converts three-phase line power into precisely metered motor current so closed-loop axes can accelerate, decelerate, and hold position under controlled motion in automated machinery and robotic cells. It is intended for servo applications that require accurate response during frequent starts, stops, and position holding. Dual-channel STO supports safe stopping functions, and EtherCAT plus CANopen ports provide fieldbus communication with the motion controller.

An AC line fuse rated at 80 A protects the drive inputs, while the operating range of 208 to 480 V allows the same hardware to connect to several common plant supply voltages. Continuous motor current is limited to 72 Arms, and for short bursts such as rapid indexing it can rise to 140 Arms without exceeding thermal limits. That current range supports demanding acceleration profiles on axes that need high short-term torque. Upstream supply sizing is aided by the drive's 50 kVA input power demand, and only 6 V is lost across the power stage, which helps limit internal heat. A dedicated fan-controller expansion card regulates cooling airflow when the optional cold plate is not used.

Total thermal loss reaches 1005 W at 400 V, so the cold plate option and conformal-coated PCBs help manage temperature and airborne contaminants inside the cabinet. The coated boards add protection in installations where dust or light contamination may be present. A minimum motor inductance of 0.61 mH at 480 V helps prevent overcurrent when the drive is paired with low-reactance windings. Acoustic output reaches up to 68 dB(A), which keeps the unit suitable for open factory installation where cabinet noise matters. The enclosure is 285 mm deep and 505 mm high with connectors fitted, and a mass of 13 kg makes handling more manageable during installation.
