The S7720A-NAF2-PM is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen for the S700 Servo Drives series. Serving as the power and regulation interface between the mains and a brushless AC motor, it generates controlled three-phase outputs based on motion controller commands. In automated packaging, assembly, and material-handling lines, the unit regulates torque, velocity, and position so each axis meets cycle-time and accuracy requirements. The power stage is intended for precise motor control across varied duty cycles.

The drive accepts three-phase mains from 208 to 480 V, allowing direct connection to common plant feeders. During continuous operation, it can provide 72 Arms of motor current while drawing 50 kVA from the supply, and for rapid acceleration or shock loads it supports a peak of 140 Arms. Communication is handled onboard through EtherCAT & CANopen, enabling synchronous motion profiles without separate gateways. This network arrangement helps the drive coordinate with other axes in distributed motion systems. Control circuits consume 2 A and are protected by a 4 A electronics fuse on the auxiliary control supply. A dedicated brake channel can source up to 3 A, allowing the motor’s holding brake to engage immediately after power-off.

The housing is rated IP20, so cabinet mounting is required and touch protection is provided by the enclosure. An upstream 80 A AC supply fuse isolates the converter during short circuits, and the built-in dual-channel STO function removes motor torque for functional safety without external relays. Cooling is supported by a cold-plate base and coated circuit boards, and an expansion card with a fan controller can drive cabinet blowers when additional airflow is needed. Logic, I/O, and the brake solenoid share a 24 VDC supply from the machine control bus. Designed for pollution level 2 conditions and vibration class 3M1, the drive tolerates normal shop-floor dust and mechanical shock while maintaining rated operation.
