The S7720A-FBF2-PM is a digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the S700 Servo Drives series. It converts rectified line power into controlled three-phase output for synchronous or induction motors, delivering the position and velocity loops required for industrial automation cells. Integrated control functions, a safety stop interface, and support for secondary encoder feedback allow this single-axis module to fit inside OEM cabinets where space, wiring simplicity, and motion response are important. By combining power electronics, signal processing, and diagnostic functions, the drive replaces discrete amplifier cards and contactors, which helps reduce panel complexity.

Its power stage accepts three-phase input from 208 to 480 V and can continuously deliver 72 A rms, which corresponds to a nominal apparent power of 50 kVA at the DC link. A carrier setting of 8 kHz sets the switching pattern of the IGBTs, balancing dynamic response with conducted emission limits. The safety input provides dual-channel STO, which removes gate-drive energy for rapid motor de-energization. When the enable signal is removed, the inverter dissipates only 24 W, and the residual voltage drop is limited to 6 V, which helps minimize heat during regenerative operation.
