The S7720A-FBF2-PA is a servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen and placed within the S700 Servo Drives series. As a digital power stage, it interfaces between a motion controller and a three-phase servomotor to regulate torque, speed, and position in automated machinery. It is intended for coordinated motion tasks in packaging equipment, material-handling systems, and other machines that require precise axis control.

The drive operates across a three-phase bus of 208–480 V, allowing deployment on common industrial mains without step-down transformers. The drive has a continuous capability of 72 Arms, which is the motor phase current it can deliver under rated thermal conditions. Position loops can be closed through the high-resolution analog input that discriminates changes as small as 1.25 mV; its 62.5 µs refresh helps keep command latency low, while the 20 kΩ input resistance limits source loading. For encoder interfacing, the X5 port accepts differential signals up to a frequency ceiling of 1.5 MHz, matching high-speed feedback devices. Functional safety is provided by a dual-channel STO circuit that removes motor power through separate hardware paths when an emergency stop is triggered.

The analog output stage provides a voltage swing of ±10 V with a granularity of 0.38 mV and an update interval of 250 µs, enabling precise actuator commands or transducer excitation. An auxiliary rail of 24 V DC feeds external sensors, while the Fb-2to1 header supplies 5 V DC at 300 mA for single-ended encoders. Up to 16 slave devices can share the X5 feedback channel at the stated 5 V signal level. Coldplate construction and coated PCBs support conduction cooling and resist moisture or flux residues.
