The S7720A-EIF2-S4 is a Kollmorgen drive from the S700 Servo Drives series. Designed for multi-axis machinery, it converts three-phase mains power into regulated output for precision torque, velocity, and position loops. It supports servo motors across packaging, robotics, and material-handling equipment and integrates with decentralized control architectures through its onboard fieldbus port. This allows the control system to maintain stable axis response during indexing, speed changes, and synchronized motion.

Electrically, the drive draws up to 50 kVA from a three-phase supply within the 208–480 V range. That input window supports use in plants with different industrial supply standards. Inside, a power stage delivers a continuous motor phase current of 72 Arms, giving the amplifier headroom for high-inertia loads. Pulse-width modulation runs at 8 kHz, so current loops can react quickly without introducing audible carrier harmonics. Line protection is handled by an 80 A AC fuse, and a residual DC-link voltage of 6 V leaves the bus capacitance at a safe level after shutdown. The internal fan controller card activates forced air cooling once the heat sink reaches 65 °C, which helps prevent thermal derating during extended duty.

The unit measures 386 mm in height, 190 mm in width, and 244 mm in depth, with a mass of 13 kg, so it fits medium-sized enclosures without excessive panel reinforcement. Its size also leaves practical room for cable routing and cooling airflow in standard control cabinets. A built-in brake chopper dissipates up to 8 kW through an external 10 Ω resistor, allowing rapid deceleration of overhauling axes. Safety is addressed by the dual channel STO circuit that removes torque-producing pulses while retaining fieldbus communication. Emitted sound pressure is limited to 68 dB(A) at full load, helping maintain acceptable noise levels in the surrounding work area. Fourteen additional digital inputs and eight digital outputs simplify direct sensor and actuator wiring, and the coldplate base with coated PCBs resists conductive dust and humidity.
