The S7720A-EIF2-PM servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S700 Servo Drives series. It regulates three-phase permanent-magnet motors in machinery that requires tight velocity and torque control, making it suitable for motion systems that depend on stable current control and fast response to load changes. By converting mains power into a controlled output and coordinating encoder feedback from the motion axis, the unit serves as the central actuator interface in packaging lines, robotics, and material-handling equipment.

The drive accepts an input range of 208 to 480 V AC and can process up to 50 kVA of apparent power at the mains terminals. Under continuous loading, the power stage delivers 72 Arms, while transient motion profiles can be supported with a peak current of 140 Arms. A factory-installed cold plate and conformal-coated PCBs improve heat transfer and help protect the electronics, and the F2 fan output switches on at 65 °C to support cabinet airflow. An external brake resistor of 10 ohms may be connected to absorb regenerated energy during rapid deceleration, and the optional expansion card serves as the dedicated fan controller.

Control integration is handled through EtherCAT and CANopen fieldbuses, while a dual-channel STO circuit provides safe torque off functionality. The extension board presents 14 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs, and these signals are protected by a 4 AT miniature fuse and supplied with 100 mA of auxiliary current. Command logic uses a control input of 24 V / 7 mA, and feedback devices that use a 5 V Posi/O level can be connected on dedicated terminals. For driving contactors or status lamps, the drive provides a signal output capacity of 24 V / 500 mA, allowing peripheral sensors, brakes, and relays to be coordinated without an additional I/O module.
