The S77202-PBF2-F2 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S700 Servo Drives series. It supplies regulated three-phase power to matched motors so closed-loop motion routines execute accurately in industrial machinery. The drive communicates with higher-level PLCs through a native PROFIBUS interface, and it accepts an optional fan-controller expansion card that supervises the integral blower. By tying thermal management to real load conditions, it helps keep cabinet temperatures within safe limits during operation.

During steady operation, the power section can deliver a continuous output of 72 Arms while drawing up to 50 kVA from a three-phase mains supply from 208 to 480 V. The IGBT bridge switches at 8 kHz, and that operating frequency combines with an output current form factor of 1.01 to keep motor ripple low. A minimum motor inductance of 0.61 mH at 480 V is required to limit di/dt and to match the stored energy with the drive’s voltage rise speed of 4.8 kV/µs at 480 V. Internal copper losses introduce a residual voltage drop of 6 V while still leaving margin for fast torque transients. Standard PCBs are fitted, so the internal layout remains consistent across the series.

The heat sink fan switches to full speed when its base reaches 80 °C, a point chosen so overall thermal dissipation stays within 1135 W at 480 V. Idle operation wastes only 24 W, which helps limit cabinet heating during pauses. Acoustic output does not exceed 68 dB(A), and switching events are restricted to 30 cycles per hour to avoid excess stress on supply contactors. For acceleration bursts, the drive permits peak current for 5 s before returning to the rated envelope. Functional safety is addressed by a Dual-channel STO circuit that removes torque in emergency stops without separate contactors. The unit also has a weight of 13 kg.
