The S77202-FBF2-S3 is a servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen within the S700 Servo Drives series. The module rectifies and modulates incoming three-phase power. It translates PLC motion commands into regulated motor current, establishing precise velocity and torque control in packaging, printing, and material-handling machinery.

It accepts a three-phase line voltage of 208 to 480 V and internally maintains a DC bus between 290-675 VDC. This bus matches the inverter section and allows constant torque across a broad supply range. During continuous operation, the power stage delivers 72 Arms, while acceleration periods can draw up to 140 Arms to overcome inertial loads. The input side is rated for 50 kVA, so cabinet wiring and protection devices must be sized for that level of apparent power. A 10-ohm external brake resistor can be wired to dissipate regenerated energy. An expansion card manages the fan controller and forces full airflow once the internal heat sink rises above 65 °C. Standard PCBs populate the control section. Feedback connector FB-2 supplies 5 V DC at 300 mA to EnDat 2.2, BiSS digital, or SSI absolute encoders, and its secondary track accepts SinCos signals. A separate port supports a TTL incremental or SSI safety encoder for redundant position monitoring.

The drive’s protective functions are integrated on safety card S1-2. This card enables a certified shutdown path, and the stage reaches a safety integrity of SIL CL3 / PLe when its dual-channel STO inputs are wired to the emergency circuit. For energy peaks produced during rapid deceleration, the internal chopper directs up to 8 kW of power into the specified brake resistor. Switch events in the IGBT bridge occur at 8 kHz, a carrier frequency chosen to limit motor acoustic noise without causing excessive switching losses.
